Elizabeth is Missing | Book Review

This book changed my perception of Dementia. I mean I knew a fair about amount it in 2014 my Nan passed away after suffering for years with Vascular. It was terrible to watch this person fade away from the loving Nan I had known for my whole life. No longer did she tell me stories of her childhood, at the end of her life she needed round the clock care and a live in carer.

In short what is Dementia? 'a chronic or persistent disorder of the mental processes caused by brain disease or injury and marked by memory disorders, personality changes, and impaired reasoning.' However this is an umbrella term for many different illnesses, more info available on Dementia UK.

Dementia is a huge issue in our ageing society, something which is overlooked in day to day news. I believe everyone should read this book because it gives an insight in to a mind suffering with Dementia.

The main character in this book is Maud. The narrative is written in both the past (just post world war 2) and now in the present. The past is written with a lot more clarity, as people with Dementia generally remember the past a lot more clearly than say what happened last Tuesday. The genius in this piece of writing is that of the present as you struggle along with Maud to work out what is happening in the narrative, as she forgets who own family, when she is, what she is doing, but having brief moments of remembering.

Throughout Maud is looking for her friend Elizabeth, to remember this she keeps notes in her pockets  'Elizabeth is Missing' along with anything else important. Whilst in the past there is the mystery of her missing sister Sukey, as it runs in parallel throughout the novel.

This is my favourite book I have read this year, whilst it was enjoyable to read it was also challenging. Please read this it will be well worth your time.

What I Eat in a Day

Hello, today I thought I would share with you what I eat in a day. I am pescetarian but this day contained no fish. I try to eat fairly healthy, but I treat myself and don't restrict myself if I want something as this isn't something I feel is healthy.

Breakfast
This is my go to breakfast. A base of natural yoghurt, homemade granola, frozen berries and on this particular day Nutella which I had instead of maple syrup.

Lunch
For lunch I made a large batch of veggie chilli, which is so colourful and tasty you would never notice there wasn't any meat in it. 100% my favourite meal of the moment.

Snack
This is my 'ice cream' discovery of the summer, which is actually Yoomoo frozen yoghurt lollies these are light and refreshing perfect for a chilled sunny day at home.

Dinner

Halloumi Burger!! I have to say since I've stopped eating meat Halloumi has been my vice, my new bacon. This is such a summery light dinner and it has Halloumi so I don't need to say anymore. However I need to give a shout out the the Paul Hollywood 'Ready to Bake Rolls' which are delicious.

Pudding
Sometimes you can't deny yourself a chocolate muffin. This is just essential one from Waitrose and met my desire for a little bit of evening chocolate.

July Favourites

Hello, this is a slightly stagey edition, where I bang on about Hamilton and Mary Poppins, then taunt you with some seaside pictures!

Music
Hamilton

After Hamilton did so well at the Tony's I could no longer ignore the soundtrack I had saved on my Spotify. This has some properly good tunes - my go to are the opening number Alexander Hamilton  as well as My Shot and Stay Alive. Just by listening to the soundtrack you can tell why this has made such an impact on Broadway. Its innovative stylistically, its not a predominantly white production- reflecting how America looks now "We're telling the story of old, dead white men but we're using actors of color, and that makes the story more immediate and more accessible to a contemporary audience."* Its relevant to our time especially with the political unrest with Donald Trump being the Republicans presidential candidate. That's the great thing about theatre, as well as reflecting life it also has the ability to make you think, whilst putting on a highly entertaining show. I cannot wait for this to come to London, I will definitely be purchasing tickets.

Theatre
Mary Poppins

If you have kept up to date with my blog I am sure you will be well aware of my love for this show. I wrote a glowing review after seeing it,  read that here.

Book
Always With Love by Giovanna Fletcher
I am a big fan of Giovanna's books, I have read all her other previous Novels (not Novellas) so there was going to be high chance of my liking this book.  Giovanna's style is so easy and enjoyable to read. This follows on the story of Sophie and Billy, Sophie being an ordinary girl from a Kent village and Billy Buskin the movie star. Whilst it seems like a pretty cliche kind of romance book, it looks at the pressure which the press and social media can put on a couple in the spotlight. The ending of this book got me like 👏❤️❤️

Game
Pokemon Go

I am not very good or hard core, however I am enjoying it and the fact it drags me out of my bedroom into the big wide world.

Day
Trip to sheringham

Ah this was just the loveliest day, to go to the Beach in England and not to be cold, is quite frankly unheard of. Alas it was hot for the most part of the day with dipping my feet in the sea being very necessary. It was hazy sunshine in the afternoon, so like every brit I got caught out and got burnt. It was a lovely just to chill out and be somewhere different. Sheringham has to be one of my favourite places, blue water, cute shops and great fish and chips.

LA Wishlist

Hello, my LA trip is under a month away which is totally crazy and its is creeping up on me. Because we've had such a naff summer in the UK I will have to get a couple of bits so I am prepared for the weather over there. Here are a few things I have been eyeing up.

Quay Sunglasses - such a statement pair of sunglasses I am pretty much in love with them.

Birkenstocks - I know I will be walking around a lot so comfort is paramount, and I am one of those people who like the Birks look.

Tie Up Body - I can just see this and my Denim shorts for an effortless look.

Mary Poppins | Theatre Review

Hello! Practically Perfect doesn't quite describe how good Mary Poppins was, but I think you'll find Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious is the word you are looking for!

I needn't say more, but I shall.

I had been looking forward to seeing this for months and months, on Friday the day came.

The show has something for everyone. To my left my Mum was entranced and my Dad was chuckling away at all the jokes, and I was swept away in the magic that is Mary Poppins.

Zizi Strallen lead an extremely strong and talented cast. There was a large band to accompany such a rich fantastic score, containing the classics such as Jolly Holiday from the film, and new Drewe and Stiles numbers meshing seamlessly, for example Anything Can Happen If You Let It and Practically Perfect which I cannot stop singing to myself.

The huge cast numbers were spectacular, probably the reason why Matthew Bourne was on the choreography team. Its a close call between the intricate and energetic  Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious  and the clever tap number Step in Time as to which was my absolute favourite. Its now a life mission to learn all the letters in Supercal!

The scenes with the Banks family is where the heart of the show lies. Whether that was bits like Practically Perfect where it is Mary, Jane and Michael in the Nursery or the end where George Banks had seen the importance of family over work.

This would not be a Mary Poppins review if I didn't mention the moment when Mary swoops over the audience, it was such a magical moment.

As you can probably tell, this production blew me away (not due to the change in the wind). It is at Norwich Theatre Royal until 30th July, if there are tickets go and see it. You are guaranteed to leave with a smile on your face, and humming the tunes.

Easy Granola

Hello, today I am showing you literally one of the easiest recipe which can easily be switched up depending on your taste.

Set oven to 160°.

The base of granola is a load of oats. Then you can add various things to it. I added, roughly chopped almonds and walnuts, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds and linseeds.

Mix on the tray. Put in the oven for 10 minutes. Mix around. Put back in for another 10 minutes checking sporadically until golden in colour.

Leave a side to cool, then put in a some tupperware or a mason jar.

Serve with some natural yoghurt and berries. Such a delicious breakfast!

June Favourites

Hello, another month is now coming to an end. Just a heads up July is massively busy work wise, so the blog may be slightly neglected, but I am hoping for lots of content come August with my LA trip coming up. Enough of that lets look back at the month of June.

Asos Stripey T-shirt w/ eyes

This is essentially a Lazy Oaf rip off, but hey everywhere is doing it and it was like £9 in the sale. I have been wearing it all of the time, so much in fact that when I wanted to photograph it for this post, it wasn't quite in the state to be doing that. Outfit post coming soon to show you how I style it.

How to get away with Murder

A law/crime series on Netflix, starring Viola Davis with crippling twists and turns, outstanding acting leaves you aching to find out what happens next. Season 1 stops on such a cliff hanger, and I urgently require the appearance of Season 2, PLEASE. Best TV show I've watched this year.

Orange is the New Black - Season 4

Anyone else waited a whole year for season 4 praying it would be better than season 3. This series was significantly more dark and intense then the previous 3. Definitely my favourite yet. Without spoiling the ending, I had to lie in my bed in silence gathering my feelings so I could carry on with life.

Tom O'dell The Wrong Crowd

I cannot stop listening to his, its going to be the soundtrack of my summer. The next time I'm near HMV I'm picking up a CD to have in my cat, thats when you can tell I really like an album. At the moment I think my favourite song is Sparrow, but that changes on a daily basis.

My Favourite Photo

This photo is from the start of June, when we had a spontaneous picnic between shows and the weather was perfect!

No Longer Eating Meat?!

Hello, today I am talking about a major change in my life. I have decided to become Pescatarian. Basically that means I have stopped eating meat, including my beloved Pigs in Blankets. Shock horror I know.

All my life I have been a big meat eater, one of my death row meals would've been a nice juicy burger, most possibly containing bacon, or bacon and maple syrup pancakes.

Becoming pescatarian is something I've been contemplating, becoming vegetarian or vegan right now isn't viable for me currently. If circumstances change and its something I want to do, then it may well happen.

So why all of a sudden have I decided this? To be honest, last Sunday I was cutting into my pork chop at lunch time and it just felt wrong, an action I no longer wanted to do. Stopping eating meat has always been on the horizon since approx 10 year old me banned the eating of lamb following a visit to Wroxham barns.

Another decision I've made is to be more conscious about the beauty products I use. From now on I will do my absolute best to use cruelty free beauty products. After all what is the point in testing products on animals if we're going to use them anyway. Animal testing is a huge problem, I don't want my personal vanity to make another beings life a misery. Here is a useful link if you want to follow suit.

I hope to be uploading a vegetarian What I Eat in a Day fairly soon on my YouTube channel.

Pineapple Upside Down Cake | Recipe

Hello, I feel like a pineapple upside down cake is a bit of a mystery to millennials... anywho the other week my friend Hattie wanted one made for her leaving do and I was more than happy to oblige. I searched the internet for the simplest recipe. I settled for this Nigella one. Yes I didn't include the cherries, I know.
Ingredients
Butter for greasing
2tbsp sugar
5-6 slices tinned pineapple in juice
100g plain flour
1 1/2tsp baking powder
100g soft butter
100g caster sugar
2 large eggs

Method
Pre heat oven to 200°C/180°C Fan. Butter a 23cm cake tin (ideally not loose bottomed cheeky )
Sprinkle 2 tbsp of sugar on base, and put pineapple on the bottom - like a flower
Then literally the all in one method with the ingredients until you get a standard cake batter.
Adding a couple of tbsp pineapple juice.
Poor into the tin.
Bake for 25-30 mins.
Turn out.
Bob's you uncle, easy AF.

June Fitness Update

Hello everyone. I think I am literally the worst person continuity wise with any kind of fitness routine. Between late February and mid April I had stopped exercising and was eating more. I saw myself in Tess' hen do pictures I was tagged in on Facebook and I couldn't bare the sight of myself. A mixture of that and watching the London Marathon (in London) gave a massive kick up the arse. A massive kick.

For about the last month I have been going to the gym twice a week. Once for cardio where I try and test out how much I can sweat. Secondly for strength where I do a mixture of floor weight free exercises and then on the machines.

I also try to go on Two runs a week (I use the word run loosely). I'm working towards being able to run at a semi decent pace a 10K at some point next year. I am doing a shorter 2K and a (slightly) longer run of around 3K, which I will slowly increase, some weeks doing an extra if I feel like it. For runs I use the Nike Running App which I couldn't recommend highly enough.

Those are my 'hardcore' days. On off days I try to go for a walk or have a yoga session just in my room. Or if I go into town I will cycle, exercising and saving money. A combination I like a lot.

That is what I am currently doing. I will like a couple of similar posts, which will prove my inconsistent nature towards working out.

Nude and Gold | Nails

Hello! Today I am still on the wedding hype, here's another post on it. To be fair it would be rude just to bung these nails on the end of another post (even if I do say so myself).

Products used: Barry M Gelly Nail Paint in Lychee, Ciate in carousel and Maybelline Super Stay Gel Nail in Crystal Clear.
I think the nails whilst being glittery are still pretty understated. This combination will look good for a good 5 days at least and minor chips are pretty unnoticeable #score.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang | Theatre Review

Hello, today I thought I would share my thoughts on Chitty Chitty Bang Bang .

On paper the musical had the makings of a great musical. A fabulous cast, classic songs and based on a classic childhood film and a FLYING car. However Chitty the musical left me some what underwhelmed.
Lets start with the positive there were some great ensemble numbers such as the The Bombie Samba. I have to give credit to Boris and Goran the Vulgarian Spies in numbers such as Act English which did make me chuckle.

Nevertheless there were no 'wow' moments, nothing that took my breath away. Whether that was an electric moment between characters, a special effect that made me wonder how they did something or someones voice being outstanding. Instead it was just all very nice and safe.

An example of safeness was Me Ol' Bamboo, billed as a 'big tap number'. Tap can be spectacular, so I was pretty pumped when my mum pointed that out in the programme. There really wasn't a huge amount of tap in it, nor any complicated tap. I just feel more could've been done with that scene. Carractus was trying to hide from an angry customer, I'm sure a hilarious chase scene could've been choreographed.

Don't get me wrong this is a very slick production, its clear to see all the actors are good. This production is perfect for children but unlike other productions aimed at similar demographic there really wasn't much for the "big children" (me) to enjoy.

Looking at other reviews I'm not sure I was watching the same show, maybe the cast had an off day?

May Favourites

Hello, its an end of another month, would you believe it! May has been quite an exciting month, one of my best friends got married, it was my Mum's birthday and I saw Chitty the Musical in Nottingham. One to my favourite things

This month I have a couple of beauty favourites, the first being...

NYX Matte Lip Creme in Istanbul - this is my ultimate pink for the lips. I have been searching high and low for quite a long time and never quite succeeding in my quest. This is matte, it compliments my skin tone and is really comfortable on my lips.

Secondly the Barry M Gelly Nail Paint in Lychee. This is an absolutely gorgeous nude, it really suits my pale hands with their slight yellow undertones. It doesn't make my hands look dead and I am really impressed with the lasting power, especially when paired with Maybelline Super Stay 7 Topcoat.

My fashion favourite are my topshop boot/sandal hybrid. You will have see them in my Wedding Guest OOTD post. They're understated, chic and give me a little bit of a height boost. They work with a pretty dress or for dressing up a jeans and t-shirt outfit.

The Bodyguard, a show I thought I would quite like - I ended up loving. I watched a matinee with Rachel John playing the part of Rachel Marron. Her voice oh my gosh was just outstanding. This was a high energy production, full of classic Whitney songs, the story was engaging throughout. A total spectacle backed up with superbly talented cast.

An App I never thought I would be including in a favourites post is the Nike Running App, that is because I have got into running. I'm not great and there is still some walking involved. I have now been going on a 'run' twice a week for 5 weeks, and I am starting to notice the difference. At the gym on the treadmill 5 minutes used to be a challenge but now I can keep going for 20 minutes and I must say I am very proud of myself.

It's been a while since I have started watching a new YouTuber. Allana is predominantly a beauty vlogger from Canada, however this month she has done EveryDay May uploading a mixture of vlogs and beauty videos. She is very likeable and easy to watch up, not to mention she is gorgeous.

My favourite photo
Taken on Marston Marshes.

And now for an announcement. *drum roll* I'm going to LA in August which is so exciting. So in August expect lots of exciting posts, outfits, lifestyley, disney, restaurants reviews and hopefully a British Girl tries American Candy video, you know all that good stuff. Until then, I am on a spending ban.

Thanks for popping by,

Wedding Guest Outfit

Hello, last week I went to my first ever wedding! How exciting, it was a truly magical day. The Bride my friend Tess look absolutely beautiful and I am so glad I got to go to such a fabulous day.

This being my first wedding I wanted to get the outfit spot on, because well I don't think any of my other friends will be getting married anytime soon. After trying on 3027529 dresses I decided on this one from topshop.

It might've been a May wedding but it was a breezy day, my coat from New Look was very necessary for waiting around for the photos after the ceremony.

I think I might've found some pretty perfect wedding shoe, I was one of the few girls who managed dancing in the ceilidh without taking of my shoes or hobbling. They are little lace up nude sandal/boots from topshop (similar). They have a small heel helping to give me a little hight and the lace up combination with nude colouring they didn't make my stumpy legs look quite as stumpy as they are. Expect to see more of these!

I hope you've enjoyed my couple of posts from the wedding.

Pretty Spring Summer Make Up

Hello, in today's post I am showing you the make up I wore to my friend's wedding at the weekend. Its pinky look which is very unusual for me, because I have found the perfect pink lip *drum roll* its the NYX matte lip cream in Istanbul which I created the whole look around.

To create this look I started with my eyes as I was braving a winged liner (I didn't want to ruin my foundation with corrections. All the eye shadows are from my Naked 3 Palette which I absolutely adore. I started with Strange all over the lids, then a combination of Dust and Burnout patted all over the lids. Factory gently patted onto the outer third, then Darkside blended through the crease. For eyeliner I used the Maybelline Gel Eyeliner with the Real Techniques Silicone Liner Brush. Mascara L'oreal Miss Manga Punky Mascara.

For foundation I used my trusty Nars Sheer Glow in Mount Blanc, for my many blemishes and under eye bags Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in Fair 1 .Eyebrows are the Nyx Micro Brow Pencil in Taupe. Bronzer is the Soap and Glory Solar Powder and Highlighter is The Balm Mary Lou Manizer. Finally the lip colour of the moment Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream in Istanbul.

I am also have video going up of me doing the make up on my neglected YouTube channel so be sure to check that out if you have a chance.

My next post will be my outfit from the day. Thanks for popping by!
